The History of St. Peter's Fiesta
St. Peter’s Fiesta, typically held in June, is a celebration of the Gloucester's commercial fishing and faith that has grown to become a city-wide party. The celebration offers parades of statues, icons through the streets, Seine boat races, the blessing of the city’s commercial fishing fleet, Masses, nine evenings of prayer, a carnival and, most notably, the greasy pole contest. The festival is sponsored by the Italian-American community in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
Although the celebration may be postponed until next year, we can still take a look back and gain insight into the history of this beloved 5 day festival with an informative video, located below.
